Footy spirit in Mount Magnet
Earlier this month, MACA hosted a community event for the local youth footy team of Mount Magnet.
Our crews from the Mt Magnet Gold Project and local community members came together to celebrate the aspiring young footy players. The evening was a great success, filled with excitement, friendly competition and the classic sausage sizzle!
Cecilia Kelly, Carole Whitby (members of the Geraldton Sporting Association Corporation and partners of the SHINE Project) and Jay O’Brien (Western Australia Centre for Rural Health) manage the team and assisted MACA with the event taking place.
Brett Kukura, MACA’s Project Manager for Mt Magnet, said a conversation with Cecilia at one of the team’s training sessions sparked the sponsorship discussion. Brett and Matt Miller, Area Manager, recognised this opportunity to support the community strongly aligned with MACA’s Core Values.
“One of the things that stood out to me whilst I was watching the team, was that the children were playing with no shoes.”
“MACA’s existing valuable relationship with Cecilia and the SHINE Project made it easy for us to give back to the younger community in the region,” said Brett.
Mark Breingan (Regional Mine Manager) and Brett Kukura (Project Manager), gifted the young team footy boots, socks and personalised AFL jumpers designed by a talented local 13-year old student.
The team were overjoyed with their new kits, heading straight to the field to showcase their skills.
“It was great to see our crews getting involved with the community and the excitement on the children’s faces,” said Brett.
At MACA, we engage and participate with the local communities in which we operate. A special thank you to Cecilia, Carole and Jay for your unwavering support and aspirations for the youth of Mount Magnet, helping to enhance the lives of young people in the community.
