Have wheels, will travel… and fundraise.
That was Shane Lindsay’s thinking when it came to boosting his MACA Cancer 200 – Ride for the Perkins fundraising efforts.
Shane, who works as a supervisor on site at McPhee Creek, decided to dust off his scooter and hit the road, signing up to be a DoorDash delivery driver in a bid to hit his fundraising goal ahead of the October ride.
So far, he’s managed to surpass his $5000 target, with more than $900 raised through his DoorDash work.
“I had a Yamaha scooter sitting around at home so I thought it might be a good way to increase my fundraising,” Shane said.
Shane donates all the money raised through DoorDash, which he fits in while at home in Adelaide on R&R. He has even got his 13-year-old son, Harvey, involved.
“Harvey came out with me one Saturday, he got on the back of the scooter and was happy to help out,” Shane said.
Shane, who has been with MACA for 18 months, said he had been aware of the MACA Cancer 200 even before joining the company.
“It’s something that interested me even before my time at MACA,” he said. “It’s a great cause and there’s a lot of camaraderie involved as well.”
Like many riders, Shane has a personal reason for wanting to raise money for the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research.
“My dad is a cancer survivor,” he said. “He had prostate then bowel cancer in his early 50s but then went into remission.
“Cancer impacts us all, so it is good to get out there and ride for a cause.”
Shane said he will continue DoorDashing until October.
“But my partner also reminded me I need to do some training on the bike,” he said.
Good on you, Shane! And all the best in the MACA Cancer 200.
