Welcoming our new apprentices!

MACA recently welcomed 22 new apprentices to the team at the first apprenticeship cohort intake for 2023.

Apprentices and their parents were invited to a welcome day at the MACA Head Office in Welshpool. CEO David Greig, General Manager People Linda Devereux, and Maintenance Support Manager Jim Price presented to the group, discussing operations, program structure, and life at MACA, followed by a tour of the maintenance workshop.

Organisation Development Manager Clayton Taboni said the cohort is enthusiastic to kick-start their career journey.

“Our first apprenticeship cohort for the year is a diverse group of new and current employees who are all eager to establish or advance their careers.

“We’re pleased to have 17 current employees start their apprenticeship this year, as they seek to gain their first nationally recognised trade or upskill to a dual trade,” said Clayton.

MACA’s Apprenticeship Program is a four-year structured program that provides apprentices with the required skills, experience, and high-quality training to build successful careers.

Mentored by our expert tradespeople, apprentices spend one year at our Welshpool workshop before heading to site in their remaining three years for practical training and development.

“The apprenticeship highlight for many of our past apprentices has been their experience onsite,” said Clayton.

“Once onsite, apprentices form a crucial part of our maintenance teams. They will learn from experienced tradespeople to perform OEM standard repairs, including diagnostics, rebuilds, and preventative procedures to keep our assets operating in peak condition,” he said.

There is no shortage of variety at MACA with over 600 major assets, different clients and commodities, our apprentices will be exposed to a suite of assets in fast-paced operating environments.

“The MACA Apprenticeship Program is highly regarded industry-wide, developing new tradespeople with a skill set that far exceeds expectations. I look forward to seeing what our new apprentices will achieve over the next four years,” said Clayton.

Applications for our second apprenticeship intake for 2023 will open on 3 April. To learn more about MACA’s career pathways visit maca.net.au/careers
