Karlawinda Gold Project

Mining
Scope of works consisting of early works, drill and blast, load and haul, and construction of a 2.6km airstrip.

MACA was awarded the five-year contract from Capricorn Metals for open pit mining services at the Karlawinda gold project in Western Australia.

Alongside the main scope of works, MACA and its technology partners (Safe AI and Position Partners) advanced autonomous haulage with the successful completion of a six month proof of concept trial in early 2022.

The trial involved retrofit of an existing 181t haul truck with autonomous hardware and software. The technology can be retrofitted to most types of equipment and can therefore be quickly implemented across a site or fleet.

This next generation of autonomy has the potential to increase productivity and lower operating costs through more efficient movements which will reduce maintenance, tyre wear and fuel consumption.
